Questions most therapists don't ask

Questions therapists should ask, but don't:

-Do you remember much of your childhood before age 10? Perhaps it's like a puzzle, with pieces missing?

-Do you often have dreams that seem to be "deleted" from your head when you wake up? Or wake up in a panic or cold sweat with no explanation?

-Do you ever see yourself from another perspective, like you are looking at someone else? (VERY common, but no one wants to seem "crazy.")

Evaluations therapists should use, but don't

-DES-II (Dissociative Experiences Scale)

-IES-R (Impact of Events Scale)

-ACE Inventory (Adverse Childhood Experiences)

Not every mental health issue results from childhood trauma, but five enormous studies showed that 50%-90% of people seeking any type of therapy have serious childhood trauma. And the 20,000-person ACE study shows the direct relationship between childhood trauma and adult mental/physical health. If it's not even investigated as a serious issue for possible treatment, that's as much of a problem as not asking about anxiety or depression.
