Marriage Therapy Added As A Service

I have decided to start doing pure marriage therapy again, on a limited basis. I normally do not work Fridays, but am adding a half-day (mornings) for marriage therapy. I often use brief marriage therapy as a preparation for working with childhood trauma. However, this time will be for pure marriage therapy.

I use Gottman Method, which I am formally trained in by the Gottman Institute. Insurance doesn't pay for marriage work (any therapist who says otherwise is cheating insurance by billing an individual code for mental health). However, the cost is offset by the efficiency of Gottman Method, which is energetic and solution-focused rather than aimlessly refereeing a fight. It is assignment-based, developing skills for past, present, and future, and was created from 20 years of research, not someone's idea. Find out more at gottman.com.

I also help manage cost by limiting the maximum number of sessions to 12, with two missed sessions allowed. This keeps the pace going. I have noticed that if 1) the couple is married, 2) they actually do the homework assignments, and 3) they show up for appointments--that 12 sessions is the maximum of what it takes to go from death's door to "why didn't we do that years ago?"

How much do we spend on our cars when they break down? Why save a small amount of money to see an untrained therapist to save something money can't buy?
